Traditional Healthcare as a ‘Tool’

Traditional herbal medicine can be considered timeless. Our ancestors developed traditional treatments long ago, before the existence of modern drugs. Throughout generations, our understanding of conventional herbal treatment has continued to grow. This local knowledge has the potential to increase economic value and represents the wisdom of the community. The Surya Sejahtera AIDS Care Community, located in Suryodiningratan Village, is dedicated to creating herbal massage oils using traditional medicinal herbs. They have also developed training programs to use this as an educational tool for HIV and AIDS in the community.

Suryodiningratan AIDS Care Community has started developing traditional medication as a mandatory skill or knowledge for its members. Conventional medicine is used to help the people in the village, especially People Living with HIV (PLHIV), to cure or heal their illnesses. Additionally, traditional medication serves as an effective tool for providing HIV and AIDS education to the people. The community's jamu drinking and free massage services have sparked high public interest.

Furthermore, the AIDS Care Community's expertise in traditional health care has given rise to new vocations in Suryodiningratan Village, such as masseurs and herbalists. In actuality, AIDS Care Community members receive financial benefits from these traditional medical talents, which they may utilize to support the organization. The massage oil produced by Suryodiningratan AIDS Care Community is sold to the locals, with the proceeds going towards the group's treasury. The cornerstone of the Suryodiningratan AIDS Care Community is the massage oil product known as 'Herbal Oil Surya.' The massage oil product's clientele is dispersed throughout Yogyakarta.
