A Crisis of Violence—Women of Alor Refuse to Stay Silent!
Several regencies in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have reported a rising trend in cases of Violence Against Women and Children. In Alor Regency, the local police handled 79 reported cases of violence against women in 2020, including sexual violence, domestic violence, and various forms of violence experienced by children. These figures reflect only the cases reported and processed legally, while violence against women and children remains like the tip of the iceberg—many incidents go unreported and hidden. In response to the growing number of VAWC cases in Alor, Suara Perempuan Alor—commonly known as SUPER Alor—was formed on January 22, 2022. Since then, SUPER Alor has received and handled several cases involving violence against women and children. So, what events led to the formation of SUPER Alor? And what have been the experiences of the team in handling these cases?
