Moringa Leaf for Jhitro: A Mother’s Story of Love and Defying Taboos
January 9, 2026Serving with love: The Journey of Life-Cycle Approach Posyandu in Webriamata Village
Behind the quietness of a small village called Webriamata lies an extraordinary story of sincerity, spirit, and devotion. It is there that Katarina Maria Yudith Kehi, fondly known as Ibu Yudit, has left her mark as a village midwife—not merely a profession, but a true calling.
After graduating from midwifery school in 2019, Ibu Yudit returned home with a single resolve: to serve selflessly. Without waiting for a permanent job, she began dedicating herself as a volunteer health worker in 2022—without salary, without facilities, relying only on love and commitment.
“This is a calling from God,” she said softly, yet with conviction.
Her days are filled with service at the Webriamata Posyandu. Each month, she examines children under five, provides health education for pregnant women, and assists villagers in need of medical help. But challenges keep coming. Out of 40 intended beneficiaries, not all attend.
Refusing to remain idle, Ibu Yudit takes the initiative—going door to door, ensuring that no one is left behind from receiving care.
A Turning Point that Brought Hope
The year 2023 brought a breath of fresh air. Ibu Yudit was officially appointed as a village health worker, supported by village funds. Yet for her, titles are mere formalities—the most important thing is the continuity and quality of service.
Along her journey, she learned about the concept of the IPHC-based Posyandu—a one-day service for all age groups: infants, children, adolescents, couples of reproductive age, and the elderly. She read, searched for information, and began to imagine: What if the parents who bring their children to the Posyandu could also have their own health checked during the same visit?
That dream eventually found its path. In October 2024, Ibu Yudit was selected to take part in the Training on the Implementation of the Life-Cycle Approach Posyandu held at Ramayana Hotel, Betun. Over the two-day training facilitated by CD Bethesda YAKKUM, she learned many things—from strategies for integrated health services to more efficient recording using the assistance card.
From Dream to Reality
After returning from the training, Ibu Yudit didn’t stay still. Together with two cadres, she developed a strategy: to conduct community outreach and prepare for the launch of the IPHC-based Posyandu. Therefore, on November 9, 2024, the IPHC-based Posyandu of Webriamata was officially launched at the village office.

A total of 12 cadres—five from Posyandu A, five from Posyandu B, and two from the KPM—worked together on a rotating system to ensure that everyone understood the entire service process. Support poured in: officers from Weoe Puskesmas, the leader of the Family Empowerment and Welfare Movement, hamlet heads, and leaders of the Neighborhood Unit (Rukun Tetangga/RT) and Community Association (Rukun Warga/RW)—all were present and actively involved.
“With the assistance card, we can conduct screenings more comprehensively, even though it takes a bit more time,” said Ibu Yudit with a weary yet grateful smile.
Today, the Webriamata Posyandu has transformed. It is no longer just a place for weighing babies, but a space for all ages—busy, vibrant, and reaching every layer of the community.
Not Everything Comes Easy, but Everything Is Worth Fighting For
However, not everything goes smoothly. Adolescent participation remains low, as the Posyandu schedule often coincides with school hours. Only two or three adolescents attend, most of them school dropouts. Nevertheless, Ibu Yudit never gives up. She even makes special visits to a youth with disabilities, ensuring that no one is left out of the service.
The pregnant women’s class once became overlooked amid the busy schedule of Posyandu activities. Yet, education for expectant mothers is a vital foundation for nurturing a healthy generation—starting from the womb.
From this realization came a simple yet meaningful idea: a regular Pregnant Women’s Class, held on the 19th of every month at the Village Health Post (Poskesdes). A calm space, a dedicated time, and an atmosphere that supports mothers in learning as they prepare to welcome new life.
There, Ibu Yudit not only shares knowledge—about nutrition, warning signs during pregnancy, and baby care—but also becomes a listening ear, a source of comfort, and a wellspring of encouragement for expectant mothers.
When Support Flows In
The collaboration with CD Bethesda YAKKUM has brought tremendous blessings. On April 5, 2025, the long-dreamed health equipment finally became a reality: baby scales, height measuring tools, blood pressure monitors, blood glucose, cholesterol, and hemoglobin meters, measuring tapes, thermometers, oximeters, infant and breast training models, and many other supporting tools are now available.
It is a tangible form of support for those who have long worked within limitations.
“Service is not about earning a wage, but about answering a calling.” — Ibu Yudit
From a small village called Webriamata, Ibu Yudit carves a story that may never make the headlines, yet leaves a deep mark in the hearts of the people.
A story of love expressed through action—of quiet work that brings real change.
Webriamata may be small on the world map, but from this little place rises a great spirit of devotion—from an ordinary woman with an extraordinary heart. (Maria Fatima Hoar)
