Sexual Violence Against Women and Children Is Increasing—Who Is Responsible?

The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) reported a total of 299,911 cases of violence against women throughout 2020. Cases of violence against women and children are often treated on a case-by-case basis, with insufficient examination of the root causes and lack of comprehensive solutions to address and prevent recurrence. Many survivors of sexual violence remain silent, believing it to be a disgrace that must be hidden. So how should society respond when facing sexual violence? What legal support is available? And what can the public do to help prevent these cases from happening again?
