Fighting HIV & AIDS: Empowering Women in Belu to Take Charge
Women are one of the groups that are highly vulnerable to HIV infection. This vulnerability is due, among other things, to gender inequality, which results in their inability to control their partners’ sexual behaviour. In addition, there is also a lack of understanding about HIV and AIDS. Therefore, empowering women is one of the efforts that can be made to reduce this vulnerability. Every woman is expected to understand and play an active role in HIV prevention efforts, starting from the smallest environment, namely the family. Currently, many women play strategic roles in HIV and AIDS control efforts. One such example is a woman leader in Belu District. This woman leader is actively involved in addressing HIV and AIDS issues in the district, which borders Timor-Leste. What motivates her concern for HIV and AIDS issues? What roles and efforts has she undertaken to participate in HIV and AIDS control efforts in Belu District?
