Departing from Concerns, Generating Empowered Communities
March 20, 2025Village Funds for Health Programs, Clear Evidence of Village Government Commitment
The Village Government has an important role in health development because health is the foundation of a good quality of life for the community. Therefore, the Village Government should pay special attention to public health in the village. One example is allocating the Village Funds for health issues.
In 2022, the Head of Dapitau Village allocated 12 million rupiah for the procurement of Supplementary Feeding (Pemberian Makan Tambahan/PMT) for 8 malnourished children. This means that each malnourished child received 1.2 million rupiah for the procurement of Supplementary Feeding. In 2023, the budget was increased to 1.5 million rupiah per child. Of course, this budgeting effort cannot be separated from the assistance of CD Bethesda YAKKUM.

In addition to assisting with budget allocation, CD Bethesda YAKKUM also provides several educational sessions (socialization) to the people of Dapitau Village which they found very beneficial in terms of both knowledge and skills. The Village Head also expressed his gratitude for the Socialization in Dapitau Village, as it increased the society’s awareness of Health Issues. Active participation from society in building health in improving health can take in many ways, one of which is involvement in Health Service Programs like Posyandu.
In Posyandu, the community can actively participate as attendees or cadres. By becoming Posyandu cadres, community members can provide information about healthy diets, immunization, common diseases, and other health-related topics to the participants attending Posyandu. Additionally, Posyandu cadres can hone their skills and gain further knowledge by participating in training sessions facilitated by UPKM/CD Bethesda YAKKUM. When the community consistently and proactively participates in Posyandu activities, it contributes to improving their own health quality. The key to enhancing health quality is fostering community awareness within the village.
One of the new experiences the community gained after the local food processing training was the introduction of more varied supplementary feeding options. The supplementary food provided to babies and toddlers is now made from local ingredients. Previously, only green beans were used, but now Posyandu cadres can provide biscuits made from moringa leaves, which have higher nutritional benefits.

A similar situation occurred with the Head of Kafakbeka Village, who has already established collaboration with the Puskesmas to serve the community with the goal of improving public health. Since 2018, Village Funds have been allocated to support activities at the Posyandu, Posbindu, and early childhood education (PAUD). Since 2021, the Puskesmas has been involved in helping to improve services in the village.
