Meeting Children's Nutritional Needs Should Be Based on Local Food

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), food security is defined by a community’s capacity to independently provide, produce, and store sufficient and nutritious food. To achieve this, dietary diversity is essential so that communities can ensure consistent food availability and sustainability. Food diversity not only helps prevent food insecurity but also plays a crucial role in fulfilling family nutritional needs and maintaining overall health. Nutrients are found in various types of food, thus requiring a diverse diet to achieve balanced nutrition. Therefore, food diversity is key to good health.

So, what is the current state of local food availability? How can local ingredients be processed to create a variety of nutritious meals? Are there any simple food processing technologies that communities can use to promote dietary diversity?
